Meet Dan
I may be a lot of things. But, I am not a politician. That alone probably makes me more qualified to represent the people of Upson County than anything else.
Husband / Father: I am a native Georgian. I was born in Macon, GA and given up for infant adoption. I spent my first few years in Lumber City, GA before my parents moved with my father's job to Bainbridge, GA. I am married to the former Dana Elise Williams of Fayetteville, GA. I met her while I was stationed in East Point, GA, and we married in 2004. Together, we have four children: Brent, Courtney, Brianne, and Brooke. When we married, I had already spent 17 years in the United States Army. Dana and I traveled the world and served another 17 years together before I retired in June 2021.
American Soldier / Veteran: I joined the United States Army on my eighteenth birthday. Having completed all my graduation requirements, I left Bainbridge High School a semester early to start my new journey. During my over 34 years of service in the United States Army, I rose from Private (E-1) to Colonel (O-6). You can learn more about my career of service to our Nation here.
Small Businessman / Developer: Dana and I made Thomaston our home in 2012, the third time I was going to retire from the Army. That year, we opened Southern Stitches Quilt Shop. Dana had given up her career to follow me around the world, and the quilt shop was something she had always wanted to do. Southern Stitches Quilt Shop thrived. I bought four storefronts in historic downtown Thomaston, where we moved Southern Stitches Quilt Shop. I eventually renovated the other three buildings and created quality storefronts downtown that small businesses could actually afford. In 2018, the Army offered Dana and I the opportunity to serve in Hawaii, so we sold our properties and business, but we had already made a definite impact on the future development of downtown Thomaston.
Farmer: Dana has always loved animals and is pursuing her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and plans to provide large animal veterinary services needed by the farmers in our district. In 2017, I bought her two Nigerian Dwarf goats. What started out as a couple more pets has evolved into Brueberry Hills Farm where Dana and I raise American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) registered purebred Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats.
